Des Lacs-Burlington Senior Coy Spooner has committed to the United States Coast Guard Academy. The Academy is a Division III program based New London, Connecticut. Spooner was an undefeated state champion for DLB last February. He finished 44-0 after a runner-up state tournament in 2018.
Spooner chose to head East because to the Coast Guard Academy because their coaching staff has been very helpful with the challenging admission process that comes with the American Military Academies.
“The coaches are always willing to help and are passionate about what they do,” Spooner notes via text to NDwrestle. “They are in the process right now if building a great tradition there that I would love to be a part of.”
There is a positive wave headed into the 2019-20 season for Bears, as they are currently ranked tenth in the nation.
“They have some tough wrestlers at the higher weight classes which I am excited to practice with and learn from,” Spooner said. “Their facilities are new and constantly improving. They also offer a great education. It is a prestigious university with a great history. I love what they do at the Coast Guard Academy in academics, athletics, and look forward to serving after graduation from there.”
