The University of Mary nabbed arguably the top North Dakotan from the class of 2020. St. Mary’s Central state champion Drew Steidler, a preseason national champion and Monster Match runner-up, has made his commitment to the Marauders. Steidler enters his senior season a four-time state runner-up and one time state champion for the Saints. Steidler won the North Dakota Class A title at 132 pounds last season. He projects to 141-149 at the college level.
Former St. Mary’s Central coach Jayden Richter, who remains on staff in an assistant role and coached Steidler each of the last four years, gave a glowing review of the standout senior.
“Drew is the silent killer,” Richter noted to NDwrestle. “He will lead by example and is extremely dedicated to the sport. Drew understands the grind and embraces it, wrestling throughout the majority of the year. (Mary Head Coach) Adam Aho will find that Drew is an extremely coachable athlete and is always willing to do what it takes to become a better wrestler.”
Richter also noted specific things about Steidler’s game that should translate to success at the next level.
“Drew is a hammer on top and as a result can put up big points in both duals and tournaments. his best offense comes off the reshot, but he is absolutely capable of creating his own offense with speed and heavy hands.”
Steidler’s commitment means he will join older brother Devin on the Marauder roster. Mary head coach Adam Aho has done well keeping the best from the Bismarck home for college. Last season, Aho was able to nab top seniors Matt Kaylor (Legacy) and Laken Boese (Bismarck).
