Day one of Junior Duals is in the books, with the Junior Women and Men’s Greco-Roman teams taking center stage for pool play. Competing in Women’s Junior Duals for the first time, Team North Dakota finished 0-6 on the day. In pool matches, Team ND finished 0-4, with its closest bout a 39-27 loss to Team Georgia. ND then went on to lose two tight matches in the Bronze/Copper Pool; one a 30-30 criteria loss to Missouri Red and the other a 35-34 loss to Team Oklahoma. Bismarck’s Sophia Smith went 5-1 on the day with four technical falls and a pin. Her lone loss came to Alaska’s Shelby Ottum.
North Dakota Blue, North Dakota’s top Greco Roman squad, started strong with a 66-5 victory over North Carolina. The team then dropped three matches in a row starting with a semifinal loss to top seeded Illinois and consolation bracket losses to Minnesota Red and Nebraska Red. Hettinger’s Kyle Burwick finished 2-0 on the day and scored Team ND’s only victory in the Illinois dual with a 6-3 decision over Brody Norman. Bismarck High graduates Ryan Ripplinger and Chase Dockter, Bismarck junior state champion Wilfried Tanefeu, and St. Mary’s Central senior Drew Steidler all went 3-1 on the day. Davies State champion Kolbe Booker was 2-1. The team will compete in the Bronze/Copper pool tomorrow morning.
North Dakota Red wrestled two matches and finished 0-2. Red was led by Bismark High graduate Lake Boese and Turtle Mountain’s Seth Baker. Boese was 2-0 with 7-6 victory over Washington’s Carson Tanner, while Baker alsow ent undefeated with two first period falls.
