The NCAA has released brackets for the the Division II national championships set for Friday March 8 in Cleveland, OH.  Both Mary and Minot State qualified wrestler for the event, with Mary advancing three and Minot State two.  Valley City native Jordan Magnuson also qualified for the championships for Minnesota State University-Moorhead.

Mary’s Barnhardt enters the tournament seeded fourth after finishing third in the Super Regional last weekend.  Barnhardt’s lone loss in that tournament was to Garrett Vos of St Cloud.  Vos is seeded third for nationals.  Barnhardt’s first round opponent is Newberry’s (SC) Timmy Martinez.  A win over Martinez would mean a quarterfinal run-in with five seed Tanner Hitchcock of Lindenwood.  Hitchcock won the Super Region IV tournament last weekend.  Mary’s other two qualified wrestlers did not receive seeds.  At 174, Phil Springsteen has a first round pigtail against Matt Pratt of Maryville.  A win would pit Springsteen against undefeated #1 seed Brandon Supernaw of Western State (CO).  285 Gerardo Jaime will also wrestle a pig tail.  Jaime will wrestle eight seed Patton Gossett of Newberry in his opening bout.

Winning the Super Reigon IV title pushed Minot State’s Jordan Will from unranked pre regional to the seven seed at the national tournament.  Only a frehsman, Will will wrestle the winner of a pigtail bout with the potential to meet #2 seed Kameron Teacher of Notre Dame in the quarterfinals with a win.  Teacher was national runner-up last season.  141 Jered Sublet drew eight seed Jared Donahue of Wheeling Jesuit.

Moorhead’s Jordan Magnuson will meet the defending national champion in his first bout of the NCAA championship.  Magnuson drew in to Terrance Fanning of Wheeling Jesuit.
