New Salem/Almont defeats Bowman County for Region 4 Title

Five Champions pushed New Salem/Almont to the Region 4 crown by twenty-two points over second place Bowman County.  The Holsteins also qualified thirteen wrestlers in what could be an important factor at the state tournament next weekend.  The Holsteins were led by Clay Gerhardt (120), Tayt Wolding (132), Chauncey Dittus (145), Josh Irwin (152), and Isaih Huus (182).  Wolding, Dittus, Irwin, and Huus all recorded falls in the finals bouts, while Clay Gerhardt defeated Alex Mardigal of Bowman County 6-2.

Bowman County got individual titles in four of the last five weight classes, with Clayton Mattern getting the train rolling with a pin in 3:12 over Lane Doll.  From there, Mitch Stuber (195), Beau Jeffers (220)  and Nate Boehm followed suit.  Stuber upended Carlton Turnquist in overtime 6-4, while Jeffers and Boehm both recorded first period falls.

Third place Hettinger/Scranton recorded championship performances from Gavin Dalley and four-time state champion Kyle Burwick.  Burwick was also a representative along to New Salem’s Tayt Wolding for Region 4 athlete of the year.

Killdeer has a lot to be excited about as well.  The Cowboys registered three championships on the day from Gus Bombach (106), Dylan Tabor (138), and Zach Andersen 160.  Tabor upset #1 seed Carlos Martinez of Hettinger/Scranton 6-4.
