In an intriguing West Region matchup between the state champion Bismarck Demons and surging Jamestown Blue Jays, Bismarck High showed why it is the overwhelming favorite to win the North Dakota Class A state championship. Jamestown won two of the first matches of the dual starting at 182, but Bismarck High then reeled off five consecutive victories starting with a pin from heavyweight state champion Chase Dockter to take a 28-11 lead. At 106, Bismarck’s #2 Christian Tanefeu defeated #1 Aden Braun 10-6 in the highlight match of the evening. Tanefeu’s brother Wilfried followed that up with a 13-4 major decision over Joel Bowman at 113. After Demon victories from Brock Fettig and Laken Boese, Jamestown stopped the bleeding with a 3-0 decision from state champion Ethan Bowman over Preston Fettig. Three-time state champion Demon Ryan Ripplinger then stole the momentum back for good with a major decision over Colton Mewes 18-4. The Demons won the last three bouts of the evening to run the final dual score to 44-17. Demons Brandt Kringlie and Gage Roaldson both scored wins over ranked Blue Jays, with Roaldson’s coming via fall in 2:54.
