NDSU senior Brent Fleetwood dropped his semifinal match against #2 ranked Sebastian Rivera of Northwestern in his first bout of the morning. Fleetwood then rebounded to win a consolation semifinal against #10 Travis Piotrowski of Illinois before falling in the third place match 4-0 to #8 Sean Russell of Minnesota Against Rivera, Fleetwood scored the first takedown, but Rivera countered with a takedown and two back point for a 5-2 first period lead. Rivera controlled the rest of the bout, cruising to a 9-3 decision. Unranked entering the tournament, Fleetwood totaled three wins over ranked opponents on the weekend. Expect the Delaware native to jump into the top ten in the country by next week.
Bison 133 Cam Sykora jumped into the top eight when he won his blood round match 6-5 over Noah Gonser of Campell, but was forced to default to eighth with an injury after being edged by Wyoming All American Montorie Bridges 6-5. Sykora scored the first takedown against Bridges, and was on the legs for the winning score when time expired.
The Bison are on the road next week for Big 12 duals with Wyoming The Air Force Academy.
