NDSU senior Brent Fleetwood is having a fantastic start to his final college wrestling season. Fleetwood, a transfer from Central Michigan who entered the tournament unseeded, defeated the fourth and fifth seeded wrestlers in advancing to tomorrow’s semifinal round. In the round of 16, Fleetwood upended Virginia’s Louie Hayes 4-2. Behind 2-1 with short time remaining, Fleetwood scored an escape and takedown to win that match in regulation. He went on to defeat NCAA finalist Zeke Moisey 8-3 in the quarterfinals. Fleetwood will wrestle #2 ranked Sebastian Rivera of Northwestern in the semifinals tomorrow morning. Fleetwood and Rivera did not meet in the NDSU-Northwestern dual last month.
Bison wrestlers Cam Sykora and Cordell Eaton also advanced to the second day of competition. Both need one win tomorrow to finish int he top eight.
