The NCAA has decided that all remaining winter and spring championships will be cancelled. The news came via press release this afternoon, and includes both the Division I championships set for Minneapolis, MN next week, and the Division II nationals that were set to begin tomorrow in Sioux Falls, SD. Qualifiers from Minot State and The University of Mary, along with the rest of the Division II qualifiers from around the country, were already in Sioux Falls when the final decision was made.
The official statement from the NCAA is as follows:
“Today, NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the Division I men’s and women’s 2020 basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships. This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.”
