With four individual champions, New Salem/Almont took home the Region 4 crown Saturday afternoon in Killdeer. The Holsteins were led by three-time state champion Clay Gerhardt at 132 pounds, Gerhardt, who will look to join the prestigious club of Class B four-time champions next weekend, scored a 16-0 technical fall over Cade Warbis of Hettinger/Scranton. Joining Gerhardt at the top of the podium was Clay’s brother Cole (106), Ethan Hammons (138), and Adam Moorman (220). Cole Gerhardt, ranked #1 at 106, score a 12-0 major decision over Hettinger/Scranton’s Jaron Frank. Hammons and Morman both scored falls in their title bouts.
Hettinger/Scranton matched New Salem/Almont with four champions, starting with #1 ranked Payton Tuhy at 113. Tuhy won his title with a medical forfeit over Connor Bosch of Beulah/Hazen. Hettinger/Scranton would then win the final three contested matches of the evening with Ezra Weichmann (145), Ty Warbis (152), and Landon Stand (160). Stang won with a 4-2 overtime decision over Navarre Stang of Bowman County.
Mitch Stuber got ball rolling for third place Bowman County/Beach with his second period fall over Rylan Sago of Beulah/Hazen. At 285, #2 ranked Nate Boehm got the job done with a 7-2 decision #6 AJ Heinz of New Salem, and Tucker Strand finished things up with a pin over New Salem’s Cody Irwin.
#2 ranked Zack Anderson of Killdeer won the Region crown at 170 pounds with two consecutive pins, and teammate John Tomjack followed that up with a title at 182. Tomjack defeated Aaron Ripplinger of Beulah/Hazen 7-2, The final champion for Killdeer was 120 pound eighth grader Gus Bombach. Bombach upended Hettinger/Scranton’s Gavin Dalley via 11-2 major decision.
