Wilfried Tanefeu advances to U16 National Finals; Isaiah Huus Also Grabs All American Status

Two Bismarck wrestlers found their way to the podium on day two of the U16 Freestyle national championships in Fargo. Bismarck High Junior Wilfried Tanefeu pushed his overall tournament record to 6-0 with two wins on Sunday. Tanefeu will wrestle for a U16 national title tomorrow afternoon against Oregon’s Gabe Whisenhunt. Tanefeu was dominant in his semifinal against another Oregonian, Nash Singleton. The North Dakota state champion racked up a technical fall in under a minute, sending North Dakota Wrestling supporters surrounding the mat into a frenzy. Tanefeu is the first North Dakota Cadet freestyle finalist since West Fargo’s Jared Franek won the title in 2016.

Isaiah Huus, who placed third for New Salem last February at the state tournament and moved to Bismarck in the spring, also gained All American status with a 3-1 victory over Evan Anderson of Ohio. Huus then won two more bouts before dropping a consi-semifinal 9-0 to Nicholas Feldman of Pennsylvania. Huus will wrestle for fifth tomorrow afternoon.
