Four NDSU wrestlers received their draws for the NCAA Division I Wrestling championships beginning March 21 in Pittsburgh, PA. Bison 125 Brent Fleetwood earned the highest seed for the Bison at tenth. The RS-Senior from Smyrna, DE, was Big 12 runner-up last weekend and is has previously qualified for the national tournament two times. Both at Central Michigan. Fleetwood will wrestle Cole Vermer of Wyoming in the first match. Fleetwood defeated Varmer 6-5 in the dual earlier this year.
165 Andrew Fogarty is seeded thirteenth after his second place finish at the Big 12 tournament Sunday. Fogarty is also a two-time NCAA qualifier, going 0-2 as a freshman and 1-2 as a sophomore. The Jordan, MN native will wrestle in the first round Thursday morning against Tyler Marinelli of Gardner/Webb.
174 Lorenzo De La Riva received the 24 seed. He drew Minnesota’s Devin Statzka Round One. De La Riva qualified for the NCAA championships two years ago as a freshman for Cal State Bakersfield. The two have yet to meet this season.
133 Cam Sykora, who received an At large bid to NCAAs after a disappointing 1-2 finish at the Big 12 tournament, is the 21 seeded wrestler and drew #12 Montorie Bridges of Wyoming right out the gate. Bridges edged Sykora at CKLV 6-5. This is Sykora’s third time qualifying for nationals.
