The Region 4 dual tournament will take place Saturday morning in Beulah, with the the top two finishers advancing to the state tournament. Each of the top three teams in the Region enters the dual tournament with one loss, but New Salem-Almont has the #1 seed because of point differential. The Holsteins defeated second seed Hettinger/Scranton 54-24, but fell to third seed Bowman County/Beach 42-37 in a quad on January 8. Hettinger/Scranton boasts a 43-36 victory over BC/B on December 28. Bowman County/Beach welcomed the return of state finalist Alex Madrigal last weekend at the East/West, so the team is as strong as it has been all season. In BC/B’s earlier win over New Salem Almont, senior Clayton Mattern won the dual with a second period fall over #2 ranked Holstein Isaiah Huus. Mattern has been weighing in a weight class lower that Huus, but if that matchup happens again it could dictate the dual winner. A major factor in this tournament will be where Hettinger four-time state champion Kyle Burwick weighs in. Burwick is the ultimate trump card, and forcing a matchup with New Salem/Almont hammer Tate Wolding could go a long way should the two teams meet in the championship match. At the state tournament last season, Burwick weighed in at 120 for dual flexibility even though he was entered at 126 on the individual side.
