New Salem standout Josh Irwin has committed to continue his academic and athletic career at Minnesota State University-Moorhead. Irwin was runner-up at 138 last season and previously finished fifth and sixth as well. Irwin also helped lead the Holsteins to a second place finish at the individual state tournament.
A big reason Irwin chose Moorhead over other schools was the North Dakota roots of head coach Kris Nelson and assistant Blake Bosch. Both were standout class B wrestlers before going on to stellar careers at the NCAA Division II level. Irwin also likes what he saw on his visit.
“I really liked the level of competition in the practice room,” Irwin noted to NDwresle. “I also felt right at home on the campus. My plans are to eventually teach history, and MSUM offers a great teaching program with comfortable class sizes.”
