Valley City head coach Aaron Larson was most impressed with Grebel and the rest of his young wrestlers in the bout.
“We wrestled four eight graders and two freshmen and three of the four eighth graders got wins,” Larson told NDwrestle. “Tyson Hovland as an eighth grader winning matches at 152 pounds is awesome to see.”
Davies defeated Devils Lake 39-33 with nine wins, including a fall from returning state finalist Jaden Mairs. Mairs defeated state ranked Parker Vilandre by fall in 3:30.
Century defeated Jamestown with last match heroics from Neal Bohrer at 113. Bohrer, currently ranked first in the state, took the mat with the Patriots down three and needing bonus points for the dual win. Bohrer was up to the task, scoring a fall in 1:39 over Joel Bowman. Jamestown tilted the match in their favor early with tossup wins from Colton Mewes at 138 and Johnny Browning at 160. Mewes defeated Devin Schulz 6-2 in what was the feature match of the evening. Patriot head coach Jerald Lemar was proud of the way his kids battled back from those setbacks to get the team win.
“Our guys are pretty resilient, and it showed last night,” Lemar told NDwrestle. “It was a huge win for (Bohrer) to finish things the way he did. It was a fun dual.”
