NDSU is hosting its third annual Green and Gold Scrimmage this Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Sandford Health Athletic Complex. The match card feature fourteen bouts including multiple matches at 141, 149, and 174. the feature matches of the day will take place at 125 and 285. At 125 will feature a bout between two NCAA qualifiers when Paul Bianchi faces off against Brent Fleetwood. Bianchi qualified for NCAA’s as a freshman for the Bison last season. Fleetwood is coming off a redshirt year after transferring to NDSU from Central Michigan where he was a 2X NCAA qualifier for the Chippewas. At 285, last year’s state Dan Stibral will take on West Fargo product Brandon Metz. Stibral had a strong sophomore season for the Bison, finishing 22-14 and just missing out on the NCAA tournament. Metz is the prized local recruit from the class of 2017 and multiple age level national championships to his name. Metz was an impressive 16-4 as a redshirt last season.
Other North Dakotans competing Sunday are Bismarck’s Taylor Nein, Lisbon’s Dylan Urbach, and West Fargo’s Jesse Shearer. Shearer and Ubach will wrestle early in the card with the winner facing off against Cal State Bakersfield transfer Lorenzo De La Riva. De La Riva was an NCAA qualifier for the roadrunners in 2017. Taylor Nein will wrestle Belgrade, MT, RS freshman Sawyer Degen with he winner getting Illinois native Gavin Sutton later in the program.
