Joe Colon, who wrestles for the Valley Regional Training Center under the direction of North Dakota wrestling legend Troy Steiner, will wrestle for a Freestyle World Bronze medal tomorrow in Budapest, Hungary. Wrestling with Steiner in his corner, Colon navigated to the the semifinals at 61 KG before being upended by Cuba’s Yowlys Bonne Rodriguez 9-4. Earlier tournament victories came by 9-6 and 10-0 scores. Colon’s bronze medal match will take place tomorrow, where all four American wrestlers that competed today are still alive. 2X NCAA champion David Taylor of the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club advanced through to the world finals at 86 KG, while 5X world champion Jordan Burroughs and heavyweight Nick Gwiazdowski were upended in the quarterfinal round and must win a match in repechage tomorrow to get a medal bout. Four other American freestylers will begin their quest for World Gold tomorrow as well.
