Two teams sponsored by North Dakota USA Wrestling competed at the Heartland Duals Saturday and Sunday in Council Bluffs Iowa. The North Dakota Bounty Hunters finished fourth in their respective pool with a 2-3 record, and then went on to finish third place in the Gold Bracket with a 53-28 victory over Texas Blue. Leading the Bounty Hunters was Bismarck Matpac’s LJ Araujo. Araujo finished 8-0 over the course of the two day tournament with five pins and a lone decision 5-2 over Pennsylvania’s Bode Marlow. Hi-Liner Wrestling’s Ethan Miller was 7-1 at 95 pounds. Miller’s lone loss came by fall to Pennsylvania’s Antonino Walker. Matpac’s Nicolas Enzminger (60 lbs, 6-2) and Ben Deforest (65 lbs 6-2) both finished the weekend with two losses. As did Minot Rattlers 105 Connor Harvey, and 130 Daniel Schumacher of Ashley.
The North Dakota Destroyers also went 2-3 in pool play and went on to finish eighth in the Gold Bracket. Leading the way for the destroyers were James Nagel of Bismarck and Jace Nitschke of Ashley. Nagel was 4-3 at 90 pounds, while Nitschke was 4-2 at 100.
