BISMARCK, ND – After leading the University of Mary to its best season in NCAA Division II, Marauders head wrestling coach Adam Aho has added five more wrestlers to his 2018 recruiting class. Gabriel Anderson (St. Michael, MN), Payton Hume (Kalispell, MT), Lance Jarrett (Gretna, NE), Ryan Stottler (Glenwod, MN) and Anthony Velazquez (Los Banos, CA) will continue their education at UMary and compete for the Marauders.
Gabriel Anderson (184, Fr., St. Michael, MN / St. Michael – Albertville HS) is a 5-11, 184-pounder from Saint Michael-Albertville High Shool in Saint Michael, MN. The son of Kami and Tim Anderson, he tallied 40 wins his senior season, placed 6th at the MSHSL State Championships and helped his team win a 2018 Team Minnesota AAA State Championship. Anderson, who also received All-Conference honors in 2018, was a team captain and voted hardest worker and most improved on his team.
A native of Kalispell, MT, Payton Hume (157/165, Fr., Kalispell, MT / Flathead HS) competed for Flathead High School and is the son of Nicki and Buck Hume. He finished his high school career with 154 wins and tallied 97 career pin falls. Hume is a three-time placer at the MHSA State Championships, where he finished as a runner-up in 2017 before winning a state championship in 2018. Hume has seen success at the Vegas Open, becoming a two-time folkstyle and freestyle placer and one-time Greco placer in addition to his four AAU All-American honors.
Lance Jarrett (184, Fr., Gretna, NE / Gretna HS) is a 5-8, 184-pounder from Gretna High School in Gretna, Nebraska. He is the son of Jennifer Jarrett and Matt Fauver and brother of UMary commit Trevor Fauver. Jarrett had an impressive high school career with 176 wins and is a two-time placer at the NSAA State Championships, taking home an individual State Championship in 2018.
Ryan Stottler (197/285, Jr., Glenwood, MN / Minnewaska Area High School / St. Cloud State) is a native of Glenwood, MN, and a Minnewaska Area High School graduate who has obtained his bachelor’s degree from St. Cloud State University. A graduate student who is the son of Tammy and Shaun Stottler, he notched 104 career wins in high school and was a runner-up at the 2014 MSHSL State Championships. Stottler is a three-time academic All-Conference team member as a 10th, 11th and 12th grader in football and wrestling and earned academic All-State honors in 2014. This two-time team captain was voted outstanding wrestler in 2014 and KMGK-Radio Athlete of the Year. While attending SCSU Ryan was a member of the 2015 and 2016 NCAA DII National Championship teams.
Anthony Velazquez (157, Fr., Los Banos, CA / Pacheco HS) is a 5-10, 157-pounder from Pacheco High School in Los Banos, CA. Velazquez is the son of Christina and Anthony Velazquez and has found impressive success in the single class system of California wrestling. He twice earned 1st Team All-League honors and is a two-time qualifier for the CIF State Championships. Velazquez, also a Freakshow Tournament Runner-Up and a Reno World’s placer, was voted team captain and team MVP for the Pacheco wrestling program.
The commitments from Anderson, Hume, Jarrett, Stottler and Velazquez increase the Marauders 2018 signing class to 13. The Marauders announced commitments from Maxwell Bruss (DePere, WI), Braeden Dickinson (Twin Falls, ID), Trevor Fauver (Gretna, NE), Braydon Huber (Post Falls, ID), Devin Steidler (Bismarck, ND), Lincoln Turman (Pierre, SD), Parker Wahl (Bismarck, ND) and Joshua Weisbrod (Clark, SD) in December from the early signing period.
