Jared Reis finished third in the Super Regional when he came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat St. Cloud 2X All American Larry Bomstad. The third place finish means Reis draws the runner-up from the west super region; Shawn Beiriger of Western State (Colorado). Beiriger entered his super region unseeded and ran two overtime victories all the way to the finals. In the quarterfinals, Beiriger defeated second ranked (nationally) Payton Tawater of Colorado Mesa. A Reis win in round one would mean a quarterfinal matchup with either Austin Palmer (Newberry) or Zach Voytek (Seton Hall). Palmer was the champion of the Midwest Regional, while Voytek was fourth out east. Neither is currently ranked in the nation. The number one wrestler in the country, Cody Law of Pitt-Johnstown, is also on the top half of the bracket and would be a potential semifinal matchup for Reis. Law was fourth at the NCAA tournament last season.
The NCAA Division II Championships are set for March 9-10 in Cedar Rapids, IA.
