Augustana Upends Mary 26-13 |

The University of Mary was upended Saturday by Augustana 26-10 as the Vikings pushed their NSIC dual record to 6-0. The dual featured a numerous back and forth bouts, but in the end, Augie’s run of horses from 174-197 proved the difference in the dual. At those three weight classes, the Vikings scored a two technical fall and a major decision and turned a 10-9 Mary lead into an insurmountable 23-10 advantage.

The Marauders got wins from Tate Barnhardt, Jared Reis, and Phil Springsteen. Barnhardt showed his veteran savvy by grinding out a 10-2 major decision over Brayden Curry. Curry held position well throughout the first period, but Barnhardt started pouring it on as the match extended. Needing a takedown to secure the major late, Barnhardt found the legs and finished the job. The ninth ranked Bismarck, ND native now stands 23-5 on the season.

Jared Reis scored a workmanlike 5-0 decision over Augie’s Bailey Neises with a strong front headlock and punishing top wrestling that left his opponent visibly exhausted by the end of seven minutes. Reis now stands 3-1 on the season.

Phil Springsteen finished off the winning for Mary by defeating Ben Kelvington 5-2. Springsteen dominated the action, and again scored a ton of riding time, but was unable to gain a comfortable lead as he was unable to find back points in the bout. Kelvington made things interesting with a reversal in the third.
