Marauders Edge Southwest Minnesota State 20-19

Mary 285 Dom Tudor must be getting comfortable in his closer role.  The sophomore from Peoria, IL got to play the hero again Friday evening at Southwest Minnesota State after scoring an overtime decision to propel the Marauders over Minnesota State University-Moorhead last Sunday.  Tudor didn’t need overtime last night, as he dominated the position battle with Andrew Peterson and won the match 6-2.  the victory gave Mary a 20-19 NSIC road victory.  Tudor used his size and strength advantage to push Peterson all over the mat, scoring two stalling points as a result.

Nate Humann was named Marauder “Dude of the Dual” with a 3-2 sudden victory decision over Taylor Curtis.  Curtis scored the lone takedown of the bout, but Humann scored two escapes and the score stayed even when Curtis took neutral to start the third rather than going underneath the Bismarck Century product.  Human scored an escape and got the rideout for the win in the second tiebreaker.

Tate Barnhardt then scored a technical fall at 133 with a high pace from neutral and punishing top game to give May an 8-0 lead after two matches.  Southwest picked up back to back victories of their own at 141 and 149.  Hunter Eckert was defeated by Trent Buthcer 14-7 at 141 in a bout that was very back and forth until Eckert gave up a six point move in the final :30.  Marauder Reid Cronin was then pinned by Justin Haneke in 3:19 and SMSU took a 9-8 dual lead.

Mary came right back with three more wins.  Jared Reis won by 3-2 decision over Cortez Arredondo 3-2. Phil Springsteen continued his fabulous freshman season with a 9-2 win over Kegan Fingalsen, and Austin Eichmann finished off the winning streak for Mary with a 2-1 win over Griffin Osing.  With a 17-9 dual lead, the Marauders gave up back to back technical falls at 184 and 197 and handed control right back the SMSU.  Tudor’s win ended things 20-19 for Mary.

The Marauders are at Augustana Saturday afternoon
