Bismarck native Ryan Blees is experiencing the best stretch of his college career, and the #10 Virginia Tech Hokies are reaping the benefits in the form of dual victories. Blees took the mat at 149 pounds Friday and Saturday in Tech home matches with Lehigh and Duke and the results were impressive. Against Lehigh, Blees blew open a close match with Johnathan Mele in the third period with a two point takedown and four point nearfall. The added riding time point was just enough to push the victory to a 14-6 major decision, giving Virginia Tech an extra team point cushion in what ended up being a 20-17 dual victory. Is Saturday’s match with Duke, Blees scored a 20-2 technical fall victory over Brandon Leynaud. tech went on to win that match 24-19.
Blees has now won twelve of thirteen bouts since making the cut down to 149 a month ago in replacement of All American Solomon Chisko. Chisko has wrestled in the last few weeks, starting the Hokies dual vs. West Virginia last Sunday and finishing 2-2 at the Appalachian State Open this weekend. He is currently ranked eleventh by Flowrestling.
