Bison Green/Gold Wrestle-Off Results

NDSU held its second annual Green/Gold Wrestle-Off Sunday afternoon at the Scheels Center, and Green walked away with a 26-14 victory.  More importantly, things became a bit clearer at a few key weigh classes for the Bison.  At 149, senior Kyle Gliva came out on top in matches with two other seniors to finish undefeated.  In his semifinal bout, Gliva defeated former NCAA qualifier Mitchell Bengtson by 7-5 overtime decision.  Gliva then went on to defeat Mitch Friedman 4-3 in the final.  Expect these three wrestlers to do battle next Saturday at the Bison Open as well, with the first dual set for Friday, November 17 at #7 Iowa.

Like Gliva, 141 Sam Hampton also scored two victories ont he day.  Hampton won a tight 6-5 battle with Nate Smith before pinning Nico Colunga in 6:19.

Two bouts were won by the tightest of margins.  In the first, senior 3X NCAA qualifier Clay Ream defeated Nick Mergen 5-4 in the first tie breaker at 157.  Last year’s starter at 184 Tyler McNutt also had his work cut out for him, winning in the final seconds 3-1 over Cole Witzig.

Lisbon, ND native Dylan Urbach secured his starting spot at 174 for the second year with a 10-5 win over Charley Popp.
