What To Watch For: Class B Region 2

Location:  Central Cass High School

Team Race:  Pembina County North is the only squad from Region 2 entering a full lineup, which could work to their advantage in a small tournament like this.  Thirteen of fourteen PCN entrants should be seeded within the top four, and it is possible we see nine Grizzlies in the finals Saturday evening.   With only eleven entrants, Carrington may end up behind PCN at regionals, but should be stronger when the field expands at state.

Individual Matchups to keep and eye on:

106:  HM Tysen Landeis (Larimore) vs. #6 Cade Olson-Tinglestad (Central Cass):  Landeis won their first two encounters earlier in the year, but Olson-Tinglestad took the last one via 9-6 decision in a dual on January 31.  The winner should get a seed at the state tournament, while the loser could potentially be a bad first round state tournament draw as one of the first unseeded draw-ins.  Either way, it is definitely one to watch for.

113:  #2 Treston Lura (Carrington) vs. #3 Trevor Hinkle (Pembina County North)  Lura won their first matchup of the season last weekend at Regional 2 Duals.  In spite of his loss at East/West to South Border’s Charles Herr, Lura still has to be considered the title favorite based on his season body of work.  If Hinkle can get the win this weekend, it would certainly throw a monkey wrench in the overall seeding at this weight for the state tournament.

145:  #1 Tanner Urlaub and #4 Jeremiah Sullivan have wrestled once this season, with Urlaub taking home a 7-2 decision in the finals at Larimore.  Urlaub is one of Class B’s best wrestlers when healthy, but with only seven matches under his belt entering Regionals, it will be important for him to score another win over Sullivan to lock up the top seed at the state tournament.

160:  There maybe a tier separating Carrington’s Tate Hoggarth and Harvey-Wells County’s Carson Mertz based on previous results, but the two wrestlers are currently ranked third and fourth respectively.  Hoggart owns a third period fall and 7-0 decision in their two matches this season.

220:  Neither is currently ranked by NDwrestle, but Eli Bjornstad of PCN and Colton Buskness of Carrington wrestled a 12-8 barn burner at Region Duals, and both are guys with major upset potential at the state tournament.  This match will also be big for PCN’s title chances!

What did we miss?  What are you looking most forward to this weekend in LaMoure?
