Matpac’s Drew Steidler Wins Preseason National Championship

Matpac’s Drew Steidler navigated through a field of 76 wrestlers and won a USA Wrestling Preseason National Championship Saturday afternoon in Des Moines, IA.  Steidler, who preps for Bismarck St. Mary’s Central High School and won his first state title last February, went unbeaten in the 138 pound weight bracket.  Steidler navigated through two Illinois grapplers in his final two matches, and defeated Utah State champion Scott Robinson in the quarterfinals.  Steidler’s win over Robinson locked up All American honors.  In the semifinals, Steidler defeated Izzy Style’s Cameron Johnson via 4-0 decision.  Johnson was an Illinois Class A state champion in 2018.  Another Izzy Style grappler, Illinois Class AAA state placer Jake Herrier, awaited in the finals.  Steidler locked up the lone takedown for a 3-2 decision in that bout.

Steidler is entering his senior season at St. Mary’s Central and has made the state finals in four consecutive years.  Steidler has not made a decision with regards to college at this time.
