Savageau and Burwick Garner Junior Freestyle All American Honors

Noah Savageau and Kyle Burwick are the lone North Dakotans remaining after two days of Junior Freestyle competition at the Fargodome. Savageau, a sophomore at Bismarck High School, scored a blood round victory over Rory Burright via fall in 1:31 to earn his first Fargo All American honors. Savageau lost in the next round and will wrestle for seventh place tomorrow morning at 1:00 PM.

After suffering a disappointing quarterfinal loss this morning at the hands of finalist Angelo Rizi of Ohio, Hettinger’s Kyle Burwick rebounded with three hard fought victories and will wrestled for third place tomorrow. Burwick started the backside run in the blood round with a 10-4 victory over Ohio’s Dylan Shawver. The win made Burwick a Junior All American for the second consecutive summer. In the next round, Burwick used menacing head snaps to rack up a 12-2 technical fall over Carter Young of Oklahoma. In what was one of the best matches of the tournament, Burwick got behind California’s Jayden Garcia 6-2 before scoring a takedown and 1 point attention for fleeing the mat. With the score now 6-5, Garcia was forced into the bottom par terre position on the restart. With only 15 seconds left, Burwick locked up a gut wrench and turned Garcia for the two-point match winner. Burwick will wrestle Wyatt Henson of Missouri in 126 pound third place match tomorrow.

Bismarck’s Matt Kaylor ended one match short of All American status when he fell to Vincent Baker of Georgia in the Blood Round.
