The 2019 UWW Women’s National Tournament is set for this weekend in Irving, TX, and two of North Dakota’s strongest females are registered to compete for a spot on the World Team in the Cadet Division. Sophie Smith, who competes for Wyoming Seminary Prep in Pennsylvania, is entered in the 53 KG weight class. Last season, Smith finished in fourth place. The champion at each weight class will be the representative for the United State at the Cadet World Championships later this summer. Runners-up will represent the United States at the Pan-Am championships, and all top-three finishers will be designated members of the Cadet National Team.
West Fargo’s Morgan Strandberg is entered in the Cadet 49 KG weight class. Strandberg competed for West Fargo Sheyenne during the NDHSAA Folkstyle season and qualified for the state tournament at 106 pounds. This is her first time competing at UWW Cadets.
Both the 49 and 53 KG weight classes are loaded with world-level talent, with 53 KG boasting multiple Fargo national champions and runners-up. Action begins Saturday morning and can be streamed live via Flowrestling.
