NDSU 133 Cam Sykora secured a consolation bracket win with some impressive top work at the NCAA Wrestling Championships. Sykora, who lost his first round of the tournament earlier Thursday, defeated Tim Rooney of Kent State via 13-2 major decision. Sykora started the second period from the top position but behind 2-1. The five-time Minnesota state champion then scored three different sets of back points, plus a stalling point, to take a 12-2 lead. Add one for riding and Sykora built himself some nice momentum heading into tomorrow’s second round of wrestlebacks. In that round, Sykora will tilt with NC State All American Tariq Wilson. Wilson was defeated by Minnesota’s Ethan Lizak in the round of sixteen.
