For the second consecutive season, a Minot State heavyweight was crowned Super Region champion. Redshirt freshman Jordan Will, who prepped at Bishop Ryan High School in Minot, scored three victories on his way to a Super Region championship. Will was seeded third entering the tournament and qualified for nationals with a semifinal win over #2 Noah Ryan of St. Cloud. In that match, Will scored a second period takedown and rideout, plus a riding time point for a 4-3 decision. Will’s finals opponent was MSU-Moorhead’s Jordan Magnuson. Magnuson, who prepped at Valley City High School, advanced to the finals with a 3-1 decision over Northern’s Harrison Townsend. Will and Magnuson traded escaped through two periods before Will was able to score a go behind on an errant headlock attempt from his opponent. Both Will and Magnuson qualified for the NCAA Championship March 9 in Cleveland, OH.
Will isn’t the only Minot State wretler headed to Cleveland. 141 Jered Sublet lost his first bout of the day before reeling off three consecutive victories-two in overtime-to finish third and qualify for NCAA’s. Sublet, a senior from McMinnville Oregon, finished third with a 3-2 win over Upper Iowa’s Ryan Schmalen.
