Jimmie Women Crown Four All Americans at WCWA Nationals

The University of Jamestown women’s wrestling program has four new All Americans.  Wrestling in the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Association national tournament, Junnette Caldera and Agatha Andrews will wrestle in tomorrow’s semifinal round, while Cara Romeike and Myranda Velazquez are still alive in the consolation bracket.  Seeded second at 101 pounds, Caldera won a tight 10-7 decision in the first round before scoring two consecutive technical falls.  In the quarterfinals, Caldera defeated Alexia Seal of Simon Fraser 16-6.  One of the biggest stories of day one of the tournament came from Andrews.  The freshman 191 from Akiak, AK went down 8-0 to returning national champion Paige Baynes of Wayland Baptist before scoring a fall at 3:45.  Andrews will wrestle Destine Garrick of McKendree in tomorrow’s semifinal round.

Wrestling at 130, Cara Romeike lost her first match of the day before winning five matches in a row to find the podium.  In the blood round, Romeike defeated Julissa Taitano of Southern Oregon 6-4.  Myranda Velazquez scored a 10-0 technical fall in her first bout before falling in the round 0f 32 to Hannah Gladden of Emmanuel.  Velazquez then won four on the backside to All American.
