Mary’s Jared Reis is a match from Division II All American status. The Napoleon native was dominant in his first match of the day, scoring a 10-1 major decision victory over Shawn Beiriger of West State (Colorado). Reis scored a takedown midway through the first period on an ankle pick and took a 2-1 advantage into the second, where he rode Beiriger for the entire two minutes. With a 2-1 lead and over two minutes of riding time, Reis escaped quickly to start the third period and blew the match open from there. Another takedown and four nearfall made the match 9-1. The riding time point to end the match pushed Reis’s finally tally up by one more.
Reis will wrestle Zach Voytek of Seton Hill in tonight’s quarterfinal round with a spot in the semifinals on the line. Voytek is 20-11 on the season and upset top seed Austin Palmer of Newberry to get to the quarters.
The Super Region Central finished had a fabulous first round at 157, as all four wrestlers-including three from the NSIC-also advanced through to the quarterfinals. Reis, Cortez Arredondo (SMSU), Larry Bomstad (St. Could), and Ryan Strope (McKendree) all won their first round bouts.
