Iowa State Wins Last Five, Edges NDSU 21-20

It was a tale of two halves at the SHAC Friday evening when the Bison hosted Iowa State In Big 12 Dual Action.  Paul Bianchi  got the Bison off to a 6-0 lead with a fall at 125 pounds, sparking the Bison to four wins in the first five weights.  Cam Sykora followed Bianchi with a technical fall at 133, and NDSU took a 17-0 lead with forfeit at 141.  Kyle Gliva lost NDSU’s first match of the evening, giving up at 8-2 decision to #18 Jarrett Degen at 149.  NDSU made the dual score 20-3 at the midway point when #9 Clay Ream defeated unranked Chase Straw 8-2.

The wheels fell off for the Bison from there, as Iowa State won the last five matches with four straight decisions to make the match 20-16 heading into the heavyweight bout.  Needing a major decision to send the dual score to tie breaking criteria, Iowa State’s Marcus Harrington got the job done in the third period by 10-2 score knotting the dual score at 20.  Iowa State won 21-20 as the won six matches to NDSU’s four.

The Bison host their final home dual against Air Force Sunday afternoon.
