NDSU fell hard at home to #3 Oklahoma State on Sunday, winning only one match and giving up bonus points in six of nine losses. Paul Bianchi showed strong effort to start the match, wrestling well from neutral defensively but unable to create any serious scoring chances for himself. Bianchi was defeated by #4 Nick Piccininni 6-1. Bianchi’s struggles reflected those of the rest of the Bison squad; Even in Clay Ream’s 3-2 victory at 157 pounds, there was a struggle to find offense. At 149, Mitch Bengtson looked strong against #11 Geo Martinez, but was ridden out in the third period and gave up a 2-0 decision. #15 Andrew Fogarty finished his 165 pound bout strongly, but the Bison gave up a takedown and cradle to the always dangerous Chandler Rogers to start the match and found himself in a 6-0 hole early. In ten matches, the Bison only mustered three takedowns. Tyler McNutt had a beautiful single for a takedown at the start of his 188 pound bout with Keegan Moore, but Moore went on the win that match by fall. In total, the Cowboys racked up two falls, three technical falls, and one major decision in the bout.
Attendance for the first home match of the year was 1,500. The Bison will look to rebound next weekend at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
