Marauders Dominant in Win Over Cobbers

Mary 125 Nate Humann got the Marauders off on the right foot Wednesday evening at the McDowell Activites Center.  The Junior from Bismarck, North Dakota scored a headlock fall in the third period of his match with Concordia’s Jake Nohre to get a strong MAC crowd rolling early. The party continued throughout the match as Mary was dominant from start to finish, winning seven matches including five of the first six.  Heavyweight Dom Tudor finished the evening with a takedown clinic technical fall to make the final score 33-12.

At 133 pounds, Marauder veteran Tate Barnhardt dominated from the top position, racking up loads of back points on his way to a 17-1 second period technical fall.  Hunter Eckert and Rudy Guillen continued the onslaught of bonus points; Eckert with a second period fall and Guillen by 15-3 major decision.

Concordia finally got its first win at 157.  Mary’s Jakob Weisbrod started fast against Cobber Tony Struntz, taking a 10-2 lead into the second period before coming apart and losing by 13-12 decision.  At the intermission break, Mary led 21-3

Phil Springsteen got Mary back in the win column with a major decision 12-1 over Travis Deegan.  Springsteen has continued to impress as a redshirt freshman with his ability to score big points from the top position.

The tightest bouts of the dual came back to back at 174 and 184, with Mary and Concordia each grabbing a win.  Mary’s Austin Eichmann and Concordia’s Jake Johnson battled to a 1-1 deadlock until Johnson found a single leg in the final seconds of the third period and scored a takedown with near fall for the 7-1 victory.  The Eichmann loss actually clinched the dual for Mary, as the Marauders led 25-6 with only three matches remaining. With the dual in the bag, Mary freshman Jackson Schichel scored a walk off win with a  beautiful double leg in overtime to upend Concordia’s Jonah Lange.

Marauder freshman Emmitt Brooks was pinned at 197 before Tudor ended the bout with a victory at 285.

Mary will be in action this weekend at the Dragon Open in Moorhead, MN.  Their next home dual action will be a big one.  Mary plays host to NSIC power Upper Iowa on December 9.
