Two Bismarck High wrestlers left the UNI Dome with hardware after a long Saturday of competition. Ryan Ripplinger, who lost week finished first first at the JJ Classic in Rochester, MN, made a strong run to the quarterfinals at 126 pounds before ultimately finishing in sixth place. Ripplinger reeled off three victories on the championship side before falling 4-3 to Logan Brown of Texas. After winning a blood round match to gran All American honors, Ripplinger then lost to Ohio’s Cole Mattin before again falling to Brown again in the fifth place match.
The other Demon All American was Devin Steidler at 145 pounds. Steidler took an early loss 5-4 at the hands of Nebraska state pacer Levi Moore, but rebounded to All American with five consolation wins in a row. In the seventh place match, Steidler lost to Jack Servies of Indiana 8-0.
Steidler and Ripplinger are two important anchors to a Demon team that is favorite to win the state championship after finishing second last season. Ripplinger is a returning two-time state champion, while Steidler missed the state tournament last season due to a training violation. Steidler will be a front runner for an individual title at 145 in this, his senior season.
