After losing in the first two matches of the night, Northern State went on to win seven a row on the way to a 24-12 win over Mary Thursday evening in Aberdeen. Marauders Nate Humann and Tate Barnhardt gave Mary a 9-0 lead with strong performances, but the wheels promptly fell off starting at 141. #8 Hunter Eckert grabbed a lead early in the second period with a headlock, but Northern’s Kolton Roth battled back to send the match to overtime and ultimately won 12-10. Mary’s Max Bruss battled hard against Caden Moore at 149, but Bruss was unable to find a strong offense and was upended 5-3. Northern then score three wins in a row from North Dakota prep state champions. At 157, Carrington native Walker Carr got out to a 10-2 first period lead and coasted to a 12-3 win over Isaac Berger. Another former Cardinal picked up a win at 165. Billy Holtan found himself behind 4-1 after the first period, but battled his way back and scored a 10-6 decision over Austin Eichmann. Paxton Mewes, a two-time state champion from Jamestown, then defeated Mary’ Phil Springsteen 5-1. After two more Northern victories, Mary 285 Gerardo Jaime scored a 6-3 decision in the final bout of the evening.
