Bismarck’s Matt Kaylor, who will enter his seniors season at Legacy this fall and won the school’s first wrestling state championship last March, finished 3-0 in today’s opening rounds of the Junior Greco-Roman national championships in Fargo. Kaylor was dominant in all three bouts at 220 pounds, scoring a fall and two technical falls on his way to tomorrow morning’s quarterfinal round. Kaylor was a Cadet All American last summer, and needs just one more victory to score his first Junior All American plaque.
Bismarck High state champion Chase Dockter also remains alive in the wrestlebacks. Dockter, competing in the heavyweight division after winning his state title for the Demons last spring at 220, lost in the round of 32 to Nebraska’s Lee Harrington before reeling off three victories in a row on the consolation side. He will need two wins tomorrow to grab All American honors.
Team North Dakota came up empty handed in Cadet Greco-Roman division.
